Date Night Dressing

Sometimes we dress up!  Actually a lot of the time.  And apparently everyday when in New York.  For some reason when traveling I always feel like I need to look extra cute so I tend to pack only dresses as though I will be attending a fabulous event every night of the trip.  This means that if the weather turns I’m pretty much out of luck.  And of course that I am ready for last minute invited to fancy parties.   It also means that even a casual dinner out while traveling feels like a special occasion, which, is obviously lovely.

I packed this dress at the last minute when I realized I could maybe squeeze in ONE more thing and ended up wearing it to dinner multiple nights in a row.  I originally bought it for ‘winter’ in LA because it has sleeves, but it has also proven nice for summer nights when you want something short but covered up on top.  I packed these super old Zara heels as my wear with everything shoe because they feel both dressy and summery.

I stole Cam’s hat at the last minute to cover up a somewhat unfortunate blow out (apparently beach waves do not mean the same thing in NY and LA) but also because I feel like it makes girly outfit look instantly cooler.  My little leopard Louie is my fave to pair with other prints and paired much better with the dark dress than all the other bright bags I had packed.

I used to travel 3 out of every 4 weeks in a month during the “Corporate Cam” days so I feel like I'm pretty savvy when it comes to packing items that embody my unique and at times diversified style.  I usually try to only bring one "not practical" item per trip, in this case, my hat which Glynn was wearing this evening was my "not-Practical" item for the trip.  I am clearly a huge fan of denim. I love a good pair of shoes and bespoke coat paired with a broken in set of selvage denim jeans for a tailored but softer look and feel.

I very much like navy or dark blues as I feel like the color can work with casual and formal settings. I brought one suit on this trip for a formal dinner we had at Blue Hill at Stone Farms in upstate NY, and I used my coat from the suit for this outfit. I actually bought a couple of pairs of jeans but I am wearing one of my favorite pairs of Selvedge jeans that I have broken in over a few year period that maintain a darker yet broken in color and texture via j.Crew as part of the "Wallace Barnes" capsule collection.  I always cuff my jeans.  I guess it's a habit I have formed over the years but I love the rock n roll vibe that a good cuff creates and the break in color and texture between the bottom of the trouser and the shoe or boot.

One of my all time favorite pairs and go to pairs of shoes is the "Strand" by Allen Edmonds in the walnut color. This is my second pair of strands and this specific pair has been re-soled two times already. The Walnut color works pretty much with everything and this color develops such an awesome patina over time if you properly take care of them.

For the accessories, I have a vintage pair of vintage acetate "ROMCO" glasses with a G-10 prescription lens I had added in because I actually need a prescription lens.  My watch is a 1985 Rolex GMT "Pepsi" ref.16750.  Obviously, as a vintage watch collector and dealer, a lot of thought goes into what watch I am wearing because I am a total nerd but also because people are always interested in what I have on the wrist. I love the Rolex GMT for everyday wear and when traveling I will almost always wear a GMT as I and tracking the Craft & Tailored business back home in Los Angeles and use the GMT function of the watch to make sure I'm not calling my team too early or too late in the day.
