New York City - Part One
Our trip to New York was prompted by an invite to a friend’s birthday dinner at Blue Hill at Stone Barns – I mean, obviously we were in – and we decided to stay for a few days for some New York exploring. We had a couple meetings on the books but most of our days were free to wander, shop, and eat. Woohoo!
Our very first stop was for coffee obviously. There was a La Colombe down the street from where we were staying which was key for daily fueling. We loved the cold brew but Cam had some issues with their iced latte process (insert large eye roll from Glynn).
Caffeine in hand we proceeded directly to the Best Made store. We’ve been fans of Best Made for years and the house is of full of random little items from the shop collected over the years. It was awesome to visit the store in and see everything in person.
After some more shopping we headed to Bacaro a low key Italian spot on the Lower East Side for dinner. The food was great and we ended up seated next to Harry Styles on a date with which was somewhat hilarious.
We got up early the next day for more exploring and lunch at DeMaria. Cam also managed to squeeze in a haircut and beard trim before heading upstate for our bananas dinner at Stone Barns.
We stumbled on New York Shaving Company by chance but Cam loves an old school style barber shop and could not resist. They were so nice and the placed smelled amazing. They did a great job sharpening up Cam's regular cut and gave him a nice beard trim too.
The grounds at Stone Barns are so beautiful it almost looked fake. We started with cocktails on the patio which gave us chance to check out the crazy grill set up they have going on. Diner was probably fifteen courses of deliciousness. Our favorites were the mushroom ravioli and the cucumber tasting - maybe 10 different types of cucumbers. And Glynn may have eaten all the chocolate bread left on the table at the end of the meal. Shhhhhh. The meal is definitely an experience. We recommend going with a group if you can so it doesn’t feel toooo serious.
On Sunday we moved over to the Ludlow Hotel for night. The location is awesome and the lobby feels like your super cool friends living room. The rooms are small but the bathroom is extra stylish and we had a terrace that was maybe bigger than the actual room.
Glynn insisted on bagels for breakfast so we wandered over to Sadelle’s which had a casual two hour wait. We grabbed ours to go instead and headed out for more shopping, wandering and of course more coffee. And pizza. We stopped by the hotel for a quick change before walking over to dinner at Lil Frankie’s because giant bowls of pasta are obviously the perfect Sunday night dinner. Get the Spaghetti Limone.
